What is sugar doing in your body?
I've dealt with sugar addiction for my whole life! Those food companies are so smart! They know how to keep us addicted. In fact, they have something called the "bliss point". They know exactly how much sugar and chemicals to put into processed food to keep us going back for more.😨
Kicking the sugar habit has been a lifelong process for me. I know how good it tastes and how hard it can be to stay away. 🍫🍪🍩🍨🍦
As a Health & Life Coach, I believe in almost everything in moderation. There are some exceptions of course (as there are to almost any rule). Some of us have allergies to certain foods. Others of us have aversions or sensitivities. These are some reasons for cutting certain foods or food groups completely out of your diet.
But for the most part, I believe that we should be able to enjoy what tastes good on occasion. Does this mean we should indulge on a daily basis in processed foods, alcohol and foods that we know don't serve us? No! Absolutely not. As I mentioned before, most everything IN MODERATION.
For that reason, I never preach to my clients about what they should or should not be eating. We are all different. What works for me may not work for you. What works for you today may not work for you in 10 years. And what worked for you as a teenager may not work for you when you are in a different decade of life.
I offer my clients guidelines, but I urge them to notice how different foods feel in their body. Does it give you energy or does it deplete energy? Can you think clearly 30 minutes after you eat a certain food, or do you have muddled thinking or brain fog? Is your tummy happy or angry with you?
I think we can all agree, that one of the food groups that is not at all healthy for anyone is sugar. I'd love to share some facts with you about what sugar does in your body. I keep this list on my phone and often refer back to it when I'm having a sugar craving or faced with a delicious dessert or fancy drink.
Sometimes I read the list and decide to consume the treat anyway! After all, a treat is exactly what it is. I know I won't indulge very often, so that makes it perfectly ok for me to consciously treat myself on occasion.
Here are few things that too much sugar does in the body:
🍭 It leads to obesity
🍭 It leads to disease (cancer, diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular....)
🍭 It causes oral inflammation (your dentist has been preaching this for years!)
🍭 It suppresses the immune system (haven't we learned over that past 2 years how important our immune system is?)
🍭 It accelerates aging (who needs help in that area?)
🍭 It can cause vitamin & mineral deficiencies (I'd like to assimilate my good nutrients please!)
🍭 It increases your risk for depression (hello mood swings!)
🍭 It drains your energy (welcome to your sugar crash!)
Do any of these surprise you? I'm guessing not. I think most of us know this. Isn't it interesting that knowing does not always lead to doing better. 😏
Can I help you on your quest become the best version of yourself? Can I help you figure out what foods give you energy, clear your thinking, get you to feeling your best?
